I spent last week at Blacklands and had a really good time. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, and I think I learned a lot.

It has the advantage of not being a huge dig, so you get to know everyone and feel part of the team very quickly; there was probably never more than 20 on site at any time. But we still covered a lot: geophysics, EDM, finds processing, plan and section drawing, bones and pottery, as well as digging.

The site is important as it spans the Iron Age to Roman, with some very early Romano-British buildings. Time Team thought it sufficiently interesting to make a programme there last year. The local landscape is also being studied, with large swathes of the surrounding countryside being geophysed.

The web site (www.bacas.org.uk) gives excellent week by week summaries of what's happening.

In the final hour on the final day, the resistivity team made an important discovery in the next field. What was it? You'll have to go to find out!

What is your top bit of advice Park your car near the gate if it's wet, unless you have 4WD; the clay gets slippery!
