Okehampton Castle - Defender of the Moors
Having visited the castle do not miss the nearby Museum of Dartmoor life as there are several artefacts pertaining to the castle on display. Of which the star has to be a bell that once hung in the castle's chapel. All in all Okehampton Castle is well worth a vist and for once it's fairly simple to follow the various phases of construction - just look out for the notorious ghost of Lady Howard who rattles along in a coach of bones!

Lydford - A true Dartmoor Gem
Lydford is probably described as one of 'Dartmoor's Gems' and is well worth a visit

Allow plenty of time to explore. Although there are no shops the village does have a local inn, car park and public toilets. Best take some strudy footwear if exploring in wet weather. |
