A fascinating house full of history. A good introduction to the important historical families of the area, not just Mary Queen of Scots memorabilia but a comprehensive portrait gallery throughout the house. We had a superb tour with a guide to ourselves as we were the only visitors there at the time (another 3 followed on the next tour, starting every half-hour). Entertaining, informative, informal and great fun. Highly recommended. Our guide even had a coffee with us and continued to answer questions after the end of the tour, which had already over-run the allotted time. (The coffee and delicious shortbread is free - donations to upkeep welcomed.) Highly recommended, one of the best country house / towerhouse visits I've ever been on, thanks to the enthusiasm and broad knowledge of the guide.
