Colchester Castle Museum
A large museum with a range of artefacts from prehistoric to medieval times. There is a fine Roman collection and several well preserved mosaics on display. Some displays are looking 'dated' but considering the quantity of material on display this is perhaps understandable. The castle setting for the museum also provides another point of interest. The dungeons are accessible and the castle itself is an impressive Norman keep showing lots of reuse of Roman material. There is currently an exhibition of small terracotta funereal figures on display from China which is worth seeing.

A Unique and Fascinating Visit
Snowshill manor is an attractive manor house and gardens set overlooking a beautiful valley. This on its own would be a worthwhile attraction. The real gem however is the collection of artefacts, items and paraphernalia built up by the manors last owner, Charles Paget Wade during his lifetime. Each room is packed with curiosities from Samurai armour to leather fire buckets and everything in between. I have visited many stately homes, manor houses and museums but have never seen a collection as diverse as this one. It contains something for everyone and I thoroughly recommend it for a good day out.

| What is your top bit of advice | Do not be put off by the timed ticket admission, it works really well and you get as long as you like to look around inside the manor. Also do not expect to take it all in on one visit. |
